History of Imagehaus

Imagehaus began in 1992 as a Northwest Indiana freelance company under the direction of communications major, Eric Gossler. At the time, personal computers were not a full-fledged staple of graphic design, as the internet explosion was still a few years off. Early availability of digital design and desktop publishing on Macintosh computers set Imagehaus apart from most other services in the region.

In the beginning, Imagehaus functioned mainly as an agency to various local publishers, printers and promotional distributors who outsourced graphic design as part of their services. Early design programs included promotion of local steel mills and the region’s campaign to bring riverboat gambling to the area.

Then in 1997, Karen Dominik joined the team as a designer and commercial prepress specialist. Within a few years, Imagehaus had evolved from freelance to commercial agency, and began serving some of the larger companies in the area including the Star Plaza Theatre, the Radisson Hotel and the Empress Casino.

In 1999, Imagehaus ventured into the quick-print industry and purchased Complete Printing of Griffith, Indiana. In addition to commercial printing, Imagehaus soon offered custom-imprinted invitations as well as promotional goods. Within a few years, business had grown, the staff had expanded and Imagehaus relocated to a stand-alone building in Highland, Indiana, about 30 minutes from downtown Chicago.

Imagehaus became well known in the region for quality business graphics and layouts. In addition to printed marketing pieces, many ad layouts were commissioned for publication in local magazines and Chicago newspapers. Imagehaus also served many commercial printers in the area who contracted graphic design rather than invest in building their own department.

The new millennium also saw many new products and services become available at Imagehaus. First and foremost was the addition of commercial website services, and soon ecommerce websites. Oversized printing equipment was acquired and Imagehaus became an official dealer for various lines of indoor and outdoor point-of-purchase displays and signage. Silk-screening services for clothing were also added around that same time.

By 2005, foreign-made copiers had become ever more affordable, and Imagehaus decided to close the quick-print shop as more businesses purchased high-speed copier equipment. Production equipment was moved to a private facility and attention was refocused on creative products and services that require the specialized skills of marketers and designers.

Today, Imagehaus helps clients as far away as New York and Florida, as well as those in the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana region. Serving the needs of independent businesses has become an Imagehaus niche. The availability of so many creative services in one organization is both economical and uncomplicated, and is reflected in the humbling praises that Imagehaus receives from our most valuable clients.
